Teaching Honesty to Students
In order to inculcate the spirit of honesty, integrity and responsibility, exams were conducted for the students of Grade 9 of ATS Valley School, Dera Bassi without invigilation. Students were motivated by the experience to work even better towards the values and implement them in their day to day activities.
Rainbow Activity
Grade 1 of ATS Valley School, Dera Bassi did Rainbow activity in class where the kids learnt about the seven colours of rainbow. This activity was perfect for the rainy season as they even could see a live rainbow and several lessons involved such as patterns, color recognition and fine motor skills development.
Learn Addition with Dice
Interactive math is great for engaging students. The students of class 2 were very much excited. As we started the new Topic - Addition, we decided to teach the students in a different manner. Due to the rainy weather the children wanted to play. So we chose, Addition with dice game. All the students formed a circle to start the game. The rule of the game was - Roll 3 dice, add them up and record them. In this game the children has to throw the dice thrice, record those three numbers and add them. Each and every student participated in this activity. They enjoyed the game and learned to add the numbers on fingers. They found addition very easy and practiced it with lot of fun. As children play this game, they were able to use and apply mathematics in practical tasks.
Learn Subtraction with Dice
Students of Grade 1 learned subtraction with the help of dice game. They had fun doing this activity and every student participated joyfully in it. Students were given 2 dice and they rolled each dice and subtracted the numbers mentally and gave the answers. These kinds of games help in developing mental math skills and also help children to practice and have fun at the same time.
Science Activity
Students of grade 8 performed an activity demonstrating how liquids exert pressure in all directions. The students took a plastic container and drilled holes in it. Then they allowed running water to fall freely through these holes. It was observed that the water flowed the fastest through the bottommost hole. Thus it was concluded that pressure increases with depth. This activity proved to be a fun way to learn a basic concept of science.
Paper bag making activity
Students of Grade 2B of ATS Valley School, Dera Bassi did an inspiring activity on - Keeping our neighbourhood clean. The students made paper bags and decorated them. They were also taught on the topic "Say no to plastic", and encouraged to use paper bags instead of plastic bags. They were also motivated to use recycled papers to make paper bags. This activity will help the students in keeping their surroundings clean.
Flag Making Activity
To welcome the upcoming Independence Day, the students of Grade 2 of ATS Valley School, Dera Bassi did a wonderful activity and made a national flag for themselves and coloured them beautifully. They enjoyed the activity and the feeling of love for the nation was visible on their faces.
Boating in Monsoon
Instead of confining them to their classrooms, the students of Grade 3 were brought out in open by their teachers with their paper boats to enjoy the playful rainy weather when it was raining cats and dogs. The kids really had a festivity time with their friends and teachers. They enjoyed the onset of monsoon by floating their paper boats in the puddle in front of the skating rink. All the students had a lot of fun doing this activity. The weather remained pleasant. They were too eager to take their boats out to their classrooms.
Paper Recycling
Paper recycling is part of ATS Valley School, Dera Bassi’s Work Education program. Students of Grade 7, were given a hands-on training in paper recycling on 12th July 2018.
They were told about the importance of recycling things and encouraged to do their bit for the environment through this activity. Students painted the recycled sheets with oil paints. They also made doll houses, gift boxes, paper bags etc in order to use the recycled paper in a creative manner. It was a very interesting, enjoyable and green activity for the students.
Creative writing
Writing is the major aspect of communication is focused upon from the very beginning of the primary classes. So Grade 3 was given a topic “ If you are given a magic wand with which you can wish anything and for anybody apart from yourself” and the students expressed their ideas beautifully.
The imagination that came up in their writings was very innovative. Students expressed their gratitude towards farmers and the underprivileged class of the society. They wished for materialistic things for the poor and not- materialistic things for the entire population like healthy minds and bodies. Students also used their daily word of the day in their creative writing to express their feelings.
